    DescriptionLucille Laney's dress she wore during the Inauguration of Benjamin Travis Laney as the thirty-third Governor of Arkansas on January 9, 1945. The dress is made of black Chantilly lace situated over a black taffeta slip and features a 'V'-shaped neckline and cap sleeves. The bodice is semi-fitted with shirring at the front center seamline underneath the bust. The dressed has a dropped waistline accented by a belt of blue grosgrain ribbon which is placed between the slip and the dress. The dress features a bell-shape silhouette and is formed by a full, gored skirt that reaches to the floor. The gown was purchased at Gus Blass Company in Little Rock, Arkansas.

    Lucille Kirtley Laney was born on March 10, 1906. She married Benjamin Travis Laney on January 19, 1926; they had three sons. She served as the thirty-third First Lady of Arkansas from 1945 to 1949. She died on May 16, 1992 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery.
