    DescriptionEstelle Adkins's gown she wore during the Inauguration of Homer Martin Adkins as the thirty-second Governor of Arkansas on January 14, 1941. The dress is made of pink crepe and lace, and features a long-torso silhouette. The dress has a 'V'-shaped yoke and soft pleats along the shoulder seams. The long, set-in sleeves fit tight and are slightly shirred on the inner seamline of the sleeve near the elbow. A short zipper was placed at the wrist seamline to give the lower sleeve a tighter fit. The waistline is dropped in the back and rises to a point at the center front of the gown. Soft shirring is situated above the point near the waist. The bell shaped, floor-length skirt features rose point lace fitted over a net overskirt. The gown was purchased at M.M. Cohn Company in Little Rock, Arkansas during the fall of 1940.

    Estelle Adkins was born on July 31, 1889 in Hermanville, Mississippi. She married Homer M. Adkins in 1921. Estelle served as the thirty-second First Lady of Arkansas from 1941 to 1945. She also was a Registered Nurse and used her skills during WWII in recruiting for the Army Nurse Coups and the Red Cross. She also volunteered for the American Legion. She died on November 13, 1985.
