    Description1838 Harpers Ferry smoothbore musket model 1816 - converted for use in the Civil War.
    Model 1816 U.S. Flintlock Muscket made by Hapers Ferry. 69 caliber. Single shot muzzleloader. 42" round barrel; secured by three barrel bands. Iron mountings. Metal parts finished bright, or browned, or combination; the lockplate casehardened. Steel ramrod with button shaped head. Bayonet lug on top of barrel muzzle. Walnut stock, featuring a quite low, almost eliminated comb. Lockplate marked: "HARPERS/FERRY/1838," vertically behind hammer. Foward of hammer an American eagle motif above "US" . Barrel marked at breech, "P/V".
    This weapon is stamped "AR" on the stock.
