Three banded musket with ramrod. Barrel is stamped "1861" near tang. Lock plate is stamped with a crown emblem to the rear of the hammer and the word "TOWER" and "1862" are stamped forward of the hammer. The number 56 is stamped on the top of the stock directly behind the tang. The steel on the rifle is bright with all blueing gone. Brass is bright.
The P1853 Enfield was imported by both the Union and Confederacy during the Civil War. The rifles fired either a .577 cal. or .58 cal. minie ball.
