    DescriptionStarr Percussion Carbine. 54 caliber, single shot breechloading combination trigger guard/lever. Brass barrel and belt plate, walnut stocks, 21" round barrel. Sling ring on left side at breech. Serial # 18688. Lock marked: Stark Arm Co., Yonkers, NY. Breech marked: Starr's Patent/Sept. 14, 1858. Top of breech marked: 1st Ark. R. Inspector's initials: "A.B." on left side of buttstock. Buttplate has "PB" punched into surface.

    This is one of only a handful of weapons with actual issuance/unit markings for an Arkansas Union regiment. The markings are consistent with other documented Arkansas issued starr carbines.

    In Arkansas, 17 Union unites were formed in and around the state. The 1st Arkansas Cavalry was one of the few units issued Starr Carbines.
