DescriptionThe wedding dress worn by Betty Bumpers on the day she married Dale Bumpers, who became the Thirty-eighth Governor of Arkansas. The dress is gray with silver accents, features a thin belt and button closure on the upper front of the dress. The sleeves are three-quarter length and the dress is tea length.

Betty Bumpers was the thirty-fifth First Lady of Arkansas (1971-1975). Her “Every Child in ‘74” was implemented in 1972, to have every child in the state immunized against childhood diseases. By 1983, 100% of the children in Arkansas were immunized. The program was so successful it was used as a model nationwide. Peace Links, an organization, which Betty founded in 1982, was an effort to persuade political leaders to develop alternatives to nuclear war. She mobilized nearly 200 congressional and gubernatorial women to speak out against the nuclear threat as a solution to global conflicts.
