DescriptionA full length, sleeveless ivory dress worn by Betty Bumpers. Raw silk with beading on the shoulders of the bodice and at the hips of the dress.

Betty Bumpers was the thirty-fifth First Lady of Arkansas (1971-1975). Her “Every Child in ‘74” was implemented in 1972, to have every child in the state immunized against childhood diseases. By 1983, 100% of the children in Arkansas were immunized. The program was so successful it was used as a model nationwide. Peace Links, an organization, which Betty founded in 1982, was an effort to persuade political leaders to develop alternatives to nuclear war. She mobilized nearly 200 congressional and gubernatorial women to speak out against the nuclear threat as a solution to global conflicts.
