James Clarence Wakeley, better known as Jimmy Wakely (he dropped the second "e" as a teenager), was born on February 16, 1914, in Mineola, Howard County, Arkansas. He was a country western singer and actor from the 1930s through the 1950s. Wakely appeared in radio, movies, and television. Wakely released 15 studio albums, which included his two most popular country singles, "One Has My Name (The Other Has My Heart)" and "I Love You So Much It Hurts," both in 1948. From 1949 to 1952, he appeared in a series of comic books published by DC Comics as "Hollywood's Sensational Cowboy Star." He appeared in over 65 films and TV episodes. Wakely died on September 23, 1982 in California.
"Hollywood's Sensational Cowboy Star!" is printed across the top in white block lettering. Below that, "Jimmy Wakely" is printed in large yellow cursive lettering. The cover shows a bluish-purple sky background with Wakely, wearing a yellow shirt with green cactus imprints, a white cowboy hat, and a gun holster around the top of his blue jeans, standing beside a brown horse. The DC Comics emblem appears in each of the top corners of the cover. The comic book has an advertised price of ten cents and contains 52 pages.
