DescriptionThis is a souvenir plate sold at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis. The plate is white. The center (concave) area has an image of a man (Uncle Sam) with his left hand holding a bag of money and his right hand is reaching for the Louisanna Purchase treaty from a lady (Lady France) who is holding the Treaty in her left hand. Her right hand is reaching for the money. Above the two is the writing, "Historic Souvenir of The Louisana Purchase," under these words is "Viva La Republique." There is an eagle directly below the two figures with his wings spread open. The eagle is clutching in his claws, two flags, one U.S. and one France. In the background to the right of Lady France is an image of Thomas Jefferson. Directly behind the eagle are two Trans-Atlantic steamers. On the bottom of the tray appears, "1904."
