DescriptionA Dutch Doll quilt block. The block features a dutch doll pattern in white and red. The pattern was hand pieced and set upon a white cotton field. It features black thread, batting, and backing in cotton. there is a 2 3/4" tear across the dress and the edges are frayed and worn.

This quilt is classified as a heritage quilt made by Black Arkansas quilters. It is an appliqued quilted block that has been cut away from a whole quilt. The pattern is referenced by the quilter as being brought to Louisiana from Arkansas when she and her husband moved to Shreveport in 1957 as a quilt pattern fragment. The quiltmaker said she “intended to use them someday.” In the book A Piece of My Soul: Quilts by Black Arkansans, the pattern is referred to as Dutch Doll.

Pattern pieces were likely sourced from scrap fabrics from other textiles such as clothing, bedding, or another blanket/quilt
