DescriptionThis quilt is classified as a heritage quilt made by a Black Arkansas quilter. The pattern is categorized as a “Log Cabin” pattern quilt with an “ever-expanding medallion” variation. The quilt pattern is also referenced as the “Pig Pen” pattern. The artist incorporated this simple design to be used in a utilitarian style quilt. The quilt shows considerable wear and tear indicating its purpose was for use around the house. The artist uses bold red colors to contrast with a light background which helps the pattern stand out. The quilt was constructed around c. 1950 but fabrics used were scraps from older clothing and materials from around c.1940.

Old description: Log cabin pattern quilt. Ever-expanding medallion, 2-4 stitches per inch. Multiple piece back, blue muslin, knots show on top, thin cotton batting.

    Made by Mary Allen Williams.
