DescriptionModel 1855 Colt Revolving Rifle.This rifle has a six chamber, .44 cal revolving cylinder which, when loaded, contained black powder and shot. The cylinder was loaded from the front, one chamber at a time. The rifle has the same type of rammer as the Colt "Army" pistol. The rifle barrel and hardware has a blued finish. The number "263" is stamped in multiple locations, including the buttplate, and bottom of trigger guard assembly. There are two different sets of initails stamped on forward part of the hand grip.
Colt Mfg. Company supplied approximately 4,712 m1855 revolving rifles to the U.S. Government during the Civil War.
