DescriptionThe dress that Louvenia Donaghey wore during her husband, George Washington Donaghey's, Inauguration as the twenty-second Governor of Arkansas on January 11, 1909. The dress is made of black silk crepe that gathers along the front shoulder seams as well as an ascot of Chantilly lace that circles the neckline. The ascot is five inches wide and is folded over to give an effect of a 'V' neckline beneath the round neckline of the dress. The dress has a natural waistline which is accented by a sash belt tied in a half bow in the back. The bodice is semi-fitted with set-in sleeves. The upper sleeves are silk crepe and the lower half of the sleeves are lace. The bishop sleeves are gathered at the cuff. The skirt has a tubular silhouette with ruffles beneath the hip line. A panel of Chantilly lace falls from the ruffle and extends down the bottom of the dress to five inches above the hemline.
