Bernard Perlin was born on November 21, 1918 in Richmond, Virginia. He went on to study at various schools in New York City and had a successful start to his career which included to significant commissions from the U.S. Treasury Department for mural in the South Orange, New Jersey Post Office in 1939, and from the U.S. Maritime Commission for murals of the SS President Hayes in 1940. During WWII, Perlin designed numerous posters for the U.S. government and afterwards he became a war-artist correspondent for Life and Fortunes magazines. Perlin continued painting until he died on January 14, 2014.
