    DescriptionAn army helmet from World War II belonging to William H. Maack of Little Rock. The helmet is forest green in color but is faded and scratch marks are present as well as a dent. There is a slight lip on the back of the helmet. The straps are army green in color and are located on both sides of the helmet, and they attach with a metal hook.

    William H. Maack was born on December 7, 1920 in Little Rock, AR. He graduated from Little Rock High School in 1940 and joined the Little Rock Police Department in January of 1942. He served as a patrolman before he joined the U.S. Army in September of 1942. Maack was assigned to the 505th Ordnance Company and was deployed to England in December of 1943. In 1944, the 505th Ordnance Company was a part of the D-Day invasion, landing on Omaha Beach. Later that same year he was a part of the Ardennes Campaign also known as the Battle of the Bulge. Maack was awarded five Bronze Service Stars for his participation at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge and the Good Conduct Medal in 1945. Maack was honorably discharged from the army in November of 1945. After leaving the army, Maack returned to the Little Rock Police Department in 1947.
