    DescriptionA teapot with lid owned and used by Mary Jane Conway, First Lady of Arkansas (1836-1840). The Paris patterned china features gold embellishment on the handle, body, and lip. The lid also features the gold embellishment and an ornate handle on the top.

    Mary Jane "Polly" Conway was born in Wilson County, Tennessee in 1809 and moved to what would be known as Lafayette County, Arkansas. She married James Sevier Conway on December 21, 1826 and became the first Arkansas First Lady in 1836. She passed away February 15, 1878 and was buried in her family cemetery in Walnut Hill.
