    DescriptionA soup tureen with lid owned and used by Mary Jane Conway, the First Lady of Arkansas (1836-1840). The Paris patterned china features gold embellishments on the outer edging. The gold is also present on the ornate handles on both sides of the tureen and around the tureen's base. The lid of the tureen also features a matching ornate handle on top.

    Mary Jane "Polly" Conway was born in Wilson County, Tennessee in 1809 and moved to what would be known as Lafayette County, Arkansas. She married James Sevier Conway on December 21, 1826 and became the first Arkansas First Lady in 1836. She passed away February 15, 1878 and was buried in her family plot in Walnut Hill.
