    DescriptionA white two-piece linen suit in the "Palm Beach" style that was worn by Governor Charles H. Brough. The white jacket features two white buttons on the front and on the cuff. The suit is from the University of Arkansas 's campus shop and made by Goodall and Sanford, Inc.

    Charles Hillman Brough was born on July 9, 1876 in Clinton, Mississippi and he married Anne Wade Roark on June 17, 1908. During the 1917 election, Brough was able to gain enough support from his previous students and numerous contacts through his various civic clubs resulting in him being elected governor. During Brough’s time in office, Arkansas saw some of its most progressive times. Brough passed legislation that provided more money for education, an obligatory school attendance law, and vocational education. He also created the state commission of charities and corrections to help with many social issues. He gave women the right to vote in the party primary elections and supported prohibition. Brough passed away on December 26, 1935 in Washington, D.C. and is buried in Little Rock.
