    DescriptionCarte de visite of Captain John Tobien, Company E, 43rd. Illinois Infantry. Tobien was from Rock Island, Illinois where joined the Union army at the age of 36 on Sept. 1, 1861. He mustered into service in Otterville, MO. He was mustered out of service on December 16, 1864. He lists himself as German and as a tailor by trade.
