    DescriptionCarte-De-Viste of Lt, William Kleist. Kleist was born in August, 1832 in Germany. When the Civil War began, he was living in
    Chicago Illinois which is where he joined the service as a private in Sept., 1861 at the age of 28. He was mustered in at Otterville, MO and was mustered out of service November 30, 1865. He ended the war as a corporal. He lists himself as German and a tailor by trade. He died Dec.27, 1914 in Chicago and is buried in Saint Luke Cemetery.
