    DescriptionCarte de visite of Franz Grimm, Captain, Company G, 43rd Illinois Infantry. He enlisted at Belleville, Illinois, on December 16, 1861. Captain Grimm was killed in action in Shiloh, Tennessee, on April 6, 1862.

    Rectangular piece of light brown card stock paper with a smaller rectangular image adhered to the front. The image depicts a man standing in Union military dress against a blank wall, next to a Victorian side chair. The man is holding a sword in his left hand and has a large feather in his cap. The reverse of the image is blank, but the album inscription identified the man as Cpt. Franz Grimm.
