DescriptionBetty Bumpers' gown and jacket she wore during the Inauguration of Dale Bumpers as the thirty-eighth Governor of Arkansas on January 12, 1971. The dress is made of light blue, ribbed rayon with white beaded panels and cuffs. The dress is sleeveless and is smoothly fitted at the waist with contour darts and features a scoop neckline. Bugle beads, rhinestones, and cone-shaped glass beads are sewn onto a white panel that extends from the neckline to the hem on the front of the dress. There is a petal-shape hemline on the dress that begins below the knee and extends to the floor. The matching jacket is straight, falls below the waist, and features three-quarter length sleeves. The cuffs of the sleeves match the front panel of the dress and are beaded. The jacket and dress display a straight silhouette. The dress was made by the Boston Store in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
