DescriptionTera A. Futrell's gown she wore during the Inauguration of Junius Marion Futrell as the thirtieth Governor of Arkansas on January 10, 1933. The dress is made of purple chiffon, velvet, and lace and falls into a tubular silhouette. The round neckline features a ruffled collar of velvet and the yoke extends from the collar to the set-in sleeves, which are made of purple lace. There are two rows of smocking located on the front of the dress above the bust level. Soft folds fall over the bust and gather onto an empire waist which tapers to the natural waistline on the back. A velvet belt with a metal buckle accents the waistline and the back bodice has a velvet yoke that outlines a cut-out keyhole. The full, wrist-length lace sleeves drape over the velvet cuffs. The skirt falls in to a soft fold below the hip and falls to the floor. The dress was purchased at Goldsmith's in Memphis, Tennessee.

Tera A. Smith Futrell was born on September 9, 1875 in Tennessee. She married Junius Marion Futrell on September 27, 1893. They had six children, two sons and four daughters. Tera served as the thirtieth First Lady of Arkansas from 1933 to 1937. She died on October 30, 1967 and is buried in Linwood Cemetery.
