DescriptionThe dress Hillary Clinton wore during the Inauguration of Bill Clinton as the Fortieth Governor of Arkansas on January 9, 1979. The dress is made of pink synthetic velvet and features a horseshoe neckline that is trimmed in black beading. The center section of the bodice consists of embroidery, beads, and sequins. The bodice is fitted with princess lines in the front of the dress. The sleeves are gathered at different parts of the arm and feature an insertion of black silk organdy. The insertion is a band which circles the upper arm and is embroidered with beads and sequins. The cuffs are fitted at the lower arm and wrist. The self-fabric set on waistband in front extends into ties which are buckled at the back of the dress. The bell-shaped skirt is tiered, with each tear gathered onto the tier above. The gown was designed by Connie Fails of Little Rock, Arkansas. The beadwork that ornaments the center front of the bodice was given to Hillary Clinton for use on her gown by Mrs. Carl Scroder of Alexander, Arkansas and was originally part of a late nineteenth century dress.
