    DescriptionA gold colored pea-coat worn to Senator Dale Bumper's Inauguration in 1971 by Betty Bumpers. The double-breasted polyester coat has a broad notched collar, ten golden and yellow buttons, two mock flap-pockets with buttons, and two hidden slit-pockets. The coat is soiled.

    Betty Bumpers was the thirty-fifth First Lady of Arkansas (1971-1975). Her “Every Child in ‘74” was implemented in 1972, to have every child in the state immunized against childhood diseases. By 1983, 100% of the children in Arkansas were immunized. The program was so successful it was used as a model nationwide. Peace Links, an organization, which Betty founded in 1982, was an effort to persuade political leaders to develop alternatives to nuclear war. She mobilized nearly 200 congressional and gubernatorial women to speak out against the nuclear threat as a solution to global conflicts.
