DescriptionAnne Brough's dress she wore during the Inauguration of Charles Hillman Brough as the twenty-fifth Governor of Arkansas in January of 1917. The dress is made of plum colored silk and velvet and falls into a tubular silhouette. The dress has a three-quarter length jacket belted over a blouse and skirt with a short roll collar. Five velvet buttons are situated on each side of the jacket opening and span from the collar to the belt. The center front of the bodice has a cream-colored design over plum velvet. There are fifteen velvet buttons located on the center back. There is a wide velvet belt that extends from below the bust to below the natural waistline. The belt is shirred in front on the right side and ties to extend past the hip level with tassels falling from each tie. The long set-in sleeves hang straight and six tassels trim the back of the sleeves towards the wrist. The straight skirt falls from a lowered waist seam line to the floor. The lower edge of the blouse features a flap that can be tucked into the belt to alter the look of the dress, if desired. The three-quarter length coat is of matching plum colored velvet of the gown. The coat is lined with a cream colored satin and has a Red Fox collar and cuffs. The wide lapels give the jacket a V-neckline. The self-fabric belt at the natural waist is fitted into a front and back vertical garment panel and is seen only from the front to back at the sides. Two buttons accent sides of the belt in both front and back. The sleeves are set-in and fall straight to the waist. The coat is cut straight from the shoulders, but the belt gives a more fitted look.

Anne Brough was the twenty-fifth First Lady of Arkansas, 1917-1921. Anne was born on April 17, 1880 and died on October 12, 1958.
