DescriptionCotton, hand quilted "Lone Star" pattern, green background with red, green, tan star, blue and white checked lining (homespun), batting is unginned cotton, quilted with dark thread, heavy use."Star Quilt" made in 1830 by Martha Edwards - born in 1806 at Decatur, Tenn. The family settled in a small mining community, Nickle Town, Ar. and operated a general store for most of their adult lives. The quilt was passed down to her daughter, Nancy Louise Oliver, born in 1828. Then to a grandson and a great-granddaughter, who is now in her 70s.
The lining is homespun, the batting is unginned cotton, and dark thread was used for the quilting, which was popular in the early 1800s.
