This was a popular type of handwork during this time period and appears in the form of pillows, decorations on clothing and spreads, such as this one. While most are composed of assorted print fabric circles, this one has an additional decorative element in the two large center rows of lavender cotton in the main body and the two smaller rectangles at the top.
Made by Maisie Shed Bennett, Mr. Johnny Bennett's Mother. Mr. Bennett said his mother was an excellent seamstress and had a wonderful eye for color. He stated she "could take nothing and make something out of it".
