DescriptionLog Cabin pattern quilt. Twenty-five blocks and 5 1/2 incomplete blocks. Back lapped to front. No batting, no quilting. Machine stitched, but pieced by hand. Fabrics are from men's and women’s fashion. Each block has red center which signifies the hearth or fireplace of the log cabin and the logs are built around the heart. Plaid backing. It is in excellent condition and has a wonderful graphic impact. it is pieced from scraps leftover from what looks to be sewing or alterations, as most of the fabrics resemble suiting fabrics from the 1930-40s. Mr. Bennett said his mother was an excellent seamstress and often did alterations for people. He said she worked for someone, like a cleaners or such for a while.

Made by Maisie Shed Bennett, Mr. Johnny Bennett's mother, ca. 1930-50.
