DescriptionWar Ration Book belonging to Nancy Hall. The front of the book reads "War Ration Book Four" in black ink, and has Nancy Hall's name and address written in pen on the front. The book is numbered 45107 in red ink on the front. Inside the book are small, perforated tabs for coffee and sugar. some tabs are labeled "spare." The back of the book reads: "Never buy rationed goods without ration stamps. Never pay more than the legal price. United States Office of Price Administration" Nancy Johnson Hall (1904–1991) was the first woman in Arkansas to be elected to a constitutional office. Upon the death of her husband C.G. "Crip" Hall in 1961, she was appointed to serve the remainder of his term as secretary of state by Governor Orval Faubus. Hall then went on to be elected as Arkansas state treasurer in 1962, running unopposed in the general election as a Democrat. Hall served as treasurer for 18 years.
