DescriptionThis is the mahogany box was used to contain the Confederate battle flag of Dobbins' 1st Arkansas Cavalry when it was returned to the State of Arkansas. The plaque on the front of the box is inscribed with, "The State of Indiana presents to the State of Arkansas this battle flag retrieved on June 1, 1962." The top of the box slides horizontally to open.

Indiana Governor Matthew E. Welsh returned the battle flag in a formal ceremony on June 1, 1962. Governor Welsh flew in for the presentation ceremony on a National Guard plane with a party of ten to present the battle flag to Governor Faubus.
