    DescriptionMabel Martineau's gown she wore for the Inauguration Ball of John Ellis Martineau as the twenty-eighth Governor of Arkansas on January 11, 1927. The dress is made of chiffon and velvet and is decorated by rhinestones. It has a tubular silhouette with a low scooped neckline. The gown is apricot colored with rhinestone-covered shoulder straps. The seams create a bias-cut skirt beginning slightly below the hip and ending with an uneven hem varying from knee to ankle length. The dress was imported from Paris for M.M. Cohn Company in Little Rock, Arkansas.

    Mabel Thomas Martineau was born in 1871 at Des Arc, Arkansas. On May 1, 1919 she married John Martineau who would become the 28th Governor of Arkansas. She passed away at her home in Little Rock on November 27, 1952.
