    DescriptionMabel Martineau's coat she wore over her gown during the Inauguration of John Ellis Martineau as the twenty-eighth Governor of Arkansas on January 11, 1927. The coat is three-quarter length black velvet and is lined with white satin. The medium shawl collar is covered with ermine. The silhouette is tubular and features long, set-in sleeves. A 10-inch cut steel and brilliants design borders the center and front hem and cuffs of the coat.

    Mabel Thomas Martineau was born in 1871 at Des Arc, Arkansas. On May 1, 1919 she married John Martineau who would become the 28th Governor of Arkansas. She passed away at her home in Little Rock on November 27, 1952.
