DescriptionA gold color tie pin with the United States Marine Corps emblem belonging to the thirty-forth governor of Arkansas, Sidney "Sid" Sanders McMath. The USMC emblem includes an eagle, an anchor, and the globe.

Sidney “Sid” Sanders McMath was born June 14, 1912 in Columbia County, Arkansas. He served as the thirty-fourth governor of Arkansas (1949-1953). In the summer of 1936 Sid graduated from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville with an LLB and a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marines. From August of 1936 to March 1937, McMath was on a tour of duty. In 1940, McMath returned to active service and was assigned as an instructor in the Office Candidate School in Quantico, VA and was soon promoted to first lieutenant. McMath went on to his assignment at Camp Lejeune, NC as an operations and training officer with the Third Marine Regiment and was deployed to America Samoa shortly thereafter. McMath’s success at the Battle of Piva Forks won him the Legion of Merit, the Silver Star, and promotion to lieutenant colonel. In 1944, McMath was assigned to marine headquarters in Washington, D.C. In December 1945, McMath was no longer on active duty and took reserve status with the Eighth Marine Regiment based in New Orleans, LA.
