    DescriptionA letter sent to 1st Lieutenant Paul Remmel in October of 1918. This letter was then mailed to his family in Little Rock, Arkansas from the front lines of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive a.k.a. Battle of the Argonne Forest in Northeastern France. This letter acknowledged the 1st Division during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and contained a quote by a captured, seasoned Colonel of the German Army. The Colonel praised the 1st Division saying, "...The First Division is wonderful and the German Army knows it. We did not believe that within five years the Americans could develope a division such as the First Division. The work of its infanrty and artillery is worthy of the best armies in the world." Each memebr of the 1st Division recieved a copy of this letter from the First Division Headquarters.

    Paul Remmel served as a 1st Lieutenant in Company G, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division as part of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF), U.S. Army. He was one of two officers, himself and his captain, of the 1st Division at the Battle of the Argonne Forest in Northeastern France in October of 1918.
