Paul Remmel served as a 1st Lieutenant in Company G, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division as part of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF), U.S. Army. He was one of two officers, himself and his captain, of the 1st Division at the Battle of the Argonne Forest in Northeastern France in October of 1918. Their actions were acknowledged in "Germany Tribute to the First Division" letter (2017.024.04).
