    DescriptionBlack and white photograph of Arkansas First Lady Alta Faubus surrounded by a group of foster children in 1964. The children from left to right, Delia Cude, 11, Wayne Cude, 12, and Linda May Cude, 8, brother and sisters, were taken from their parents by the Arkansas Supreme Court in a church-state conflict. Governor and First Lady Faubus took the children into the governor's mansion.

    Celia Alta Faubus was born on August 31, 1912 and she married Orval Faubus in 1931. Alta went on to be the thirty-sixth First Lady of Arkansas when her husband Orval was elected governor in 1955. Alta died on August 9, 2002.
