DescriptionAlta Faubus's dress she wore during the Inauguration of Orval Faubus as the thirty-sixth Governor of Arkansas on January 11, 1955. The dress is a floor-length white satin gown with a camisole-style fitted bodice. The shoulder straps feature small folded tucks of satin, while the same style of satin folds cross the bust in two sections. The lower part of the fitted bodice extends below the natural waistline and is embroidered with black thread as well as encrusted with pearls and rhinestones. The bell-shaped skirt has fullness in the back and utilizes darts at the waist to accentuate the hourglass silhouette. The dress was made by Rudolph of New York and was purchased at Crooms in Springdale, Arkansas.

Celia Alta Faubus was born on August 31, 1912 and she married Orval Faubus in 1931. Alta went on to be the thirty-sixth First Lady of Arkansas when her husband Orval was elected governor in 1955. Alta died on August 9, 2002.
