DescriptionA lobby Card for the movie "Springtime in Texas," starring Mineola native Jimmy Wakely. James Clarence Wakeley, better known as Jimmy Wakely (he dropped the second "e" as a teenager), was born on February 16, 1914, in Mineola, Howard County, Arkansas. He was a country western singer and actor from the 1930s through the 1950s. Wakely appeared in radio, movies, and television. Wakely released 15 studio albums, which included his two most popular country singles, "One Has My Name (The Other Has My Heart)" and "I Love You So Much It Hurts," both in 1948. From 1949 to 1952, he appeared in a series of comic books published by DC Comics as "Hollywood's Sensational Cowboy Star." He appeared in over 65 films and TV episodes. Wakely died on September 23, 1982 in California.
The card shows a large group of people standing on the porch of a polling station. A man in the middle of the scene has his hands slightly raised with two men holding guns flanking him. Numerous voting signs are posted and being held by people in the crowd. It is unclear whether Wakely appears in the image. In the bottom right corner of the card is a red rectangle that lists Wakely's name, the title of the film, and the production company in yellow and white lettering.
