    DescriptionTinted tintype of John Spencer Polk (1833-1919) of Howard County, Arkansas. Mounted in original gold and silver leaf frame. Spencer born into slavery in Montgomery County, Arkansas. He worked as a blacksmith, carpenter and farmer and ultimately was freed after the Civil War.
