DescriptionPainting of Brinkley native and musician Louis Jordan. Painted by the artists Patterson and Barnes.Louis Jordan was born July 8, 1908 in Brinkley, Arkansas. He was an African-American musician, singer and song writer. He briefly attended Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock, majoring in music. Although he could play a variety of instruments, he was best known for his saxophone playing and was nicknamed "The King of the Jukebox." He appeared in and sang in a number of movies over the years. Jordan died February 4, 1975.
