    Dale Evans was born Lucille Wood Smith (she later changed her name to Frances Octavia Smith) on October 31, 1912, in Uvalde, Texas, and spent part of childhood in Osceola, Arkansas. Smith finally changed her named to Dale Evans to help boost her singing career. She was an actress, writer and singer and was best known for her partnership with her husband, Roy Rogers. They co-starred in “The Roy Rogers Show” and the “The Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Show." She also wrote the song “Happy Trails" and appeared in 40 movies. Evans died on February 7, 2001.

    Issue #5 of the Dale Evans comic book, "Queen of the West," which published in November of 1954. The cover of the comic shows an image of Evans and her shepherd dog on opposite sides of a tree. Evans is holding a rifle, wearing a cowgirl outfit, a red bolo tie, and white Stetson hat. At the top of the cover, printed in white letter, is the title: "Queen of the West." Below the title, in large yellow all caps lettering, reads, "Dale Evans." The comic was published by Dell Comics. The comic has an advertised price of ten cents.
