Johnny Cash was born John R. Cash on February 26, 1932 in Kingsland, Arkansas and raised in Dyess, Arkansas. Nicknamed “The Man in Black”, he was a singer/songwriter, actor and author (writing two autobiographies). He acted in both movies and television (including his own variety show, The Johnny Cash Show). Cash died September 12, 2003.

Cash on the cover in front of two microphones with his guitar hanging from one arm. Cash is wearing a black jacket and vertically striped pants and holding his arms as if he is aiming a rifle. The issue has an advertised cost of 15 cents.
