DescriptionField promotion for Sgt. W. Hatley in Co. I of the 37th Arkansas Infantry (Bell's Regiment, Hawthorne's Brigade). Hatley enlisted as a private with the 37th at Sulphur Springs, Arkansas on May 20, 1862. He was appointed 1st Sgt. by order of Colonel Samuel S. Bell. Hatley fought at Prairie Grove and Helena.

The promotion is to 2nd Lieutenant of Artillery for Ordinance Duty, Trans-Mississippi Department on Sept. 26, 1864. It is signed by Captain George Howard King, Captain of Artillery.
