Conway Twitty was born Harold Jenkins on Sept. 1, 1933, in the small town of Friars Point, Miss. His father, a riverboat pilot, taught him his first guitar chords when Conway was just 4 years old. From a black church in the town, he heard the sounds of gospel, and every Saturday night the family gathered around the radio for the Grand Ole Opry. His family moved to Helena, Ark., when he was 10, and there he put together his first band, the Phillips County Ramblers. Two years later, he had his own local radio show every Saturday morning.
A Conway Twitty album entitled "Fifteen Years Ago". The album cover features a photograph of Twitty wearing a red jacket and leaning upon a pile of logs. The text is set within a green box. "Fifteen Years Ago", "Conway Twitty", and a song list is printed within the box. The album was produced by MCA Records in 1970.
