DescriptionBrooks family poem - handwritten

A little ship so fair and bright,
Set sail from Port-(?) one April night,
Bound for a Voyage on the Sea of Life.
Where winds are rough and storms are rife
And many a whispered heartfelt prayer
Was wafted to heaven on the soft spring air,
That this little craft - all danger o'er
Might haply reach the "Golden Shore",
Might anchor there at the Isle of the Blest
Secure for aye in the Harbor of Rest,
From Infant-land she sailed away
And searched in safety Childhood's Bay
Where the sky was blue and the calm stream
Bore her merrily on like a summer's dream
Some years since then have slipped away
Why now I remember tis eleven today
Since this little boat put out to sea
Yet who can tell what her fate will be?
We watch and hope as the years roll on
Ere she reaches the land of the sitting (?)
She will joyously glean in the Fields of Love
Bright golden sheaves reap(?) the harvest is o'er
May Purity, Chastity, Love and Truth
Adorn with their beauty her years of youth
And (?) if sent by our Our Father divine
Serve but (?) (?) (?) gold to refine
We crave not for her fleeting wealth or (?)
We ask life eternal (?) (?) fading crown
