DescriptionG.A.R. post badge, George Ellis Post No. 171. This post was named in honor of 1st Lieut. George Ellis, a member of the 12th Kansas Infantry. Ellis was killed at the Battle of Jenkins Ferry on April 30, 1864.

The badge is a black ribbon with metallic gold fringe hanging at the bottom. In the center attached to a white, overlaying ribbon is a white, round, celluloid button with an image of an Civil War army camp scene. The top pin is attached to the ribbon - white enamel or celluloid with gold trim. In black lettering on the pin: "Grand Army of the Republic". In silver lettering at the bottom of the ribbon: "Geo. Ellis/Post No. 171/Ellis, Kans." Metal pinback.
