DescriptionCopper metal medal with pin. The rectangular pin has "V.H. Williams" engraved, joined to the bottom portion by a single gold metal link. The bottom portion is in the shape of a cross, Southern Cross of Honor. At the interior of the cross is a wreath and "Deo/Vindice/1861/1865". The badge is manufactured by Whitehead and Hoag, New Jersery.

V.H. Williams is Valentine H. Williams of Searcy County, Arkansas. He mustered with Co. B, 45th Arkansas Militia at Burrowville, Ark. from November 26 to December 20, 1861. He subsequently enlisted in Co. D, 27th AR Infantry at Richland, Arkansas on May 25, 1862 and served with them for three years of the war. He was 21 years of age, born in Tennessee and was appointed a corporal. He served until he was paroled at Shreveport, LA on June 8, 1865
