DescriptionGrand Army of the Republic calling card for J.H. Demby in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Com. Brown Post, No. 13, Department of Arkansas. The card shows a Union Cavalry Charge.

Josiah Demby was born August 20, 1840 in Georgia. He enlisted at Little Rock as a 1st Lieutenant in the 4th Arkansas (Union) Cavalry. He was commissioned an officer on March 8, 1864 and mustered out on June 30, 1865. Demby died on Feb. 12, 1918 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Calling cards were used socially to signifiy a visit made to a person's home. They were generally left when the home owner was absent.
