DescriptionAn invitation and envelope to Governor Carl Bailey's 1937 Inaugural Ball at the Marion Hotel. Black text on buff paper. Gold State of Arkansas Seal center top. The envelope is addressed to Mr. Steve Carrigan of Hope, Arkansas, and is postmarked Jan 5, 1937, with a three cent stamp.

Carl Edward Bailey was born on October 8, 1894 in Bernie, Missouri. Bailey married Margaret Bristol on October 10, 1915; they had six children. In 1936 he was elected governor. Bailey was reelected in 1938 and in 1940 he ran for an unprecedented third term, however, he lost to Homer Adkins. On October 23, 1948, Bailey died of a heart attack.
